This is one of those moments where the line from the movie Forrest Gump comes to mind, “Stupid is a stupid does“. Which pretty much means that a person should be judged by their actions.
Well, it looks like SNP MP Margaret Ferrier was acting pretty stupid this week when it comes to Covid-19. That stupid that after having Covid-19 she travelled on a train journey of 350 miles not once but twice.
On Saturday the right not so honourable Margaret Ferrier was experiencing mild symptoms of Coronavirus. She took a test before travelling on a train journey of 350 miles to London on Monday.
She spoke in the house of commons later on Monday during (and hears the irony) a general debate on Covid-19.
Later on Monday she then received her test results which were positive for Covid-19. Her next decision is the tragic career losing part of the story that is really indefensible.
On Tuesday she made the 350 mile trip back home on a train journey home to Scotland.
Now please note that SNP MP Margaret Ferrier herself stated that Dominic Cummings should resign after he travelled while testing positive for Covid-19.
She said “Dominic Cummings’ actions have undermined the sacrifices that we have all been making in lockdown to protect each other from coronavirus…His position is untenable and he must be removed from his post now“.
Now I get the first trip as she said she was only experiencing mild symptoms on Saturday. However, Covid-19 rules do state that she should still continue isolating especially as her test results were not available yet.
The part that makes her position as an MP untenable is the trip home. She should have made special arrangments to get home and NOT travelled on public transport.
Fined by police
Now she could be fined up to £4000 by the police if she is found to be ‘reckless’. Nicola Sturgeon the SNP leader has thrown her under the bus and rightly so. Nicola tweeted about the incident and told the mainstream media that “I have spoken with Margaret Ferrier this evening who fully accepts that what she did was wrong.“.
SNP MP Ian Blackford weighed in and suspended the whip from her last night. Other colleagues of Margaret have been quick to condemn her actions.
It is very possible that SNP MP Margaret Ferrier may have passed the virus onto a vulnerable person on that train and they could possibly die with this virus.
You and I elected people in our communities to protect us and look after our well being in the case of a global pandemic. In this case, we have discovered that we have elected a complete fool of a person who must resign.
In hindsight, we must remember that her previous position before becoming an MP was as a commercial sales supervisor for a manufacturing construction company in Motherwell.
Now she will be lucky to get a job as an sales supervisor in Aldi.
